Can some please tell me how to adjust the position of the bonnet lock so the bonnet shuts properly?

if you want it to close tighter you wind in the pin, it's locked with a nut on it then lossen this and wind it in or out as needed.

just turn the spring so that the flat edge rests against the metal part that moves when you pull the catch. and also check the bonnet sits flush all round
