what is the difference between 195/45 17 tyres and 205/40 17 tyres? I don't know much about tyre stuff so thought i'd ask

195 is the width in mm and 45 is like the profile height. So 40 will be closer to the rim. Obviously the 17 is the inch for the wheel diameter.

basicly mate 40 looks thinner than a 45, distance from wheel rim to tread.
205 and 195 means how wide so 205 is wider

ah right, so 205/40's would appear smaller when fitting to a 7x17 wheel?

if you where going to keep the same hight Suspension and you changed from 45 to 40 you would have more of a gap between top of tyre and wheel arch, and a Harsh ride, And also onless you have stron 17s they can bend a buckle on bad roads
