I've noticed over the past 2 days that when im sat in traffic im gettin steam coming from under the bonnet

It is not over heating (the temp gague stays at around 90 or less) and I have filled the water right up.

Is this a problem and could this affect my fuel econemy as im getting very poor mileage at the moment??

when you say youve filled it right up to the top, do you mean the TOP of the whole bottle & not the MAX marker 2/3 way up??

check oil as mentioned, and any hoses for signs of leaks

check make sure the rad cap is also holding pressure (one on my gsi had to be replaced as was hissing and not holding)

oil can make white smoke when hot

ok first question... when was the coolant last changed, and what ratio did you use water/antifreeze

since changing, has there been a bad frost?? (its winter i know, but best checking)

if its coming from rear of engine, then could be 1 of many things...

plastic coolant pipe from waterpump along back of block
inlet manifold gasket leaking around coolant inlet
dodgy hoses going to heater matrix...

water therefor leaking from back of head

check your oil color (look at under the oil filler cap) see if its normal or milky... not a sure sign, as the headgasket could of just gone on a water channel and oil chanels may still e fine! but will get worse if it is

i did consider this but the steam comes from the edges of the bonnet where it meets the wing and from under the scuttle
