What do you expect to see in the modifying world? I'm writing my university dissertation on this, have plenty of ideas myself but it's always good to have some extra input.

So do you expect to see less happening? Will it all die out or flourish? Will there be more composites in use, or alternative fuels?

Maybe natural gas conversions on track day cars? Please post ideas below...

No, I have it all down in notes, nearly 3k words on computer already, I'm just opening it up to a valuable resource (you guys) so I can see if I've missed anything.

I'd post the essay but no one would read it, so

i think diesels will take over in the modifying scene, with petrol prices going up, people will start to use alternative fuels for their cars, and diesel is the obviouls choice at the moment

i also think there will be less and less young people with modified cars due to increasing insurance prices

and then.... everyone will get bored of fiberglass and use carbon and kevlar, and stop putting big pointy bumpers on cars

subtle powerful diesels are the future

Stricter legislation will shape modification and driving itself.

Track day scene should get bigger.

Possibly boy racer mods will draw more upon the hot rod scene, ie. chassis mods, top chops etc. in order to push the boundaries yet further.

As mentioned, greater economy of scale on lightweight / composite body panels means price comes down.

Corsa Sport will have offices and a coach. *

I agree with your first point Ian, will be including that for sure.

Also believe that trends ebb and flow, so a return to old modding methods is feasible IMO.

What do people think about new legislation which pushes recycling of cars? How do you believe this would impact the scene?

Almost certainly Rob, especially if becomes more about driving and less about posing about in late stuff.

Plus older cars are easier to work on etc.

Lee - the coach is a secret.

It won't directly - unless the car fails an MOT or something by virtue of its mods, which half happens at the moment. I can see it being extended to include mods which make the car less efficient than it should be. At the moment you can't ditch the cat, possibly in the future you'll have to keep standard fuelling arrangements etc.

I don't think diesels will become more popular in the long term, as not only does diesel cost more, its running out just as fast as petrol.

Hydrogen cars will be the same price as current cars, although there will be a perios where boyracers are 'phased out', as petrol prices will be skyhigh, but hydrogen cars will cost a huge amount. When hydrogen cars are the 'norm', things will be pretty much the same as they are now.

And stricter legislation too definitely.
