Er, DIesel costs more than petrol. But then again, it costs more to buy a bottle of concentrated orange squash over a carton of ready mixed orange squash. I wonder why that is?

The ideal situation would be to have a fully ceramic engine so you could operate it at over 500-1000 degrees. At the moment you can't run an engine hot enough for it to operate efficiently enough.

my idea still wins though...because all these fancy ceramic engines etc will cost loads. And boy racers will phase out when petrol gets expensive, then phase in again when ceramic engine/hydrogen cars/sugar cars/alcohol cars become cheap

I personally feel that young people simply wont be able to afford to modify the cars so it will become rarer. Also i agree with the trackcar theme getting bigger but i do feel that all of this will take longer than 2 years to make an impact. I feel that 5-10 years would be more of a substancial time to asses the fuels etc.

Yeah, not far off, Ian was on it too, track days are still huge, much bigger than before.

I'm not sure diesel tuning has gone quite the way I anticipated, it's big, but not bigger than petrol yet.

Alternative fuels seem to be the future now, I still thing E85 or similar is more likely to be commonplace as people still don't like diesels.

tbh, all these people with diesels aren't part of the scene, they think they are, but they usually have pretty standard cars and use an internet forum, which imo just doesn't cut it.

i think the real enthusiasts have turned to older cars and restoration is the new modifications

so many young lads driving around in remapped diesels, thinking they have a wicked car.

A remap does not constitute a tuned car.

I have a remap on mine.

Would you class a 1.8t with a remap as tuned?

I would of thought a remap is the pretty much the definition of tuning. Take a standard engine map and "tune" it to make it better. Thats essentially what they do isn't it?

My definition is different to yours. If you want to argue with me about it, carry on, but I can't actually be arsed.

IMO, a generic remap does not make a tuned car.
