I'm tempted to get a loan of about 2k. Need to get a flat to rent with the girlfriend. Has anyone took a loan about before and how old are you?

I'm 18 nearly 19 so what do you think to me taking a loan out? Anyone else done it?

Cheers

I dont think it is, when I turned 18 i borrowd 2.5k to spend on car, paid bk £90 or month for 3yrs, ends end next yr. My mate borrowed 5k to pay for 18s and a mynheer bill lol and he pays £150 month, think its over 5yrs. Dont see the problem, im thikin of addin 1k to mine to get 2litre in.
I think loans are ok as long as you dont tek piss borrowin loads and make sure u can always affored repayment, simple but only way imho

Got a £4k loan over 2 years when i was 21 to buy a car.

If you think you can handle the repayments etc without increasing the loan or repyment terms then go for it.

I've been thinking about this recently, I think there should be a upper limit for which young people 18-21 say should be allowed to borrow, say a maxiumum of 5k, the amount of people that get into big trouble (me included) now days because of the temptation of money now instead of saving is ridiclous.

Don't even think about it mate

Me and Richie live with his parents are are ready to move out, i considered getting a loan so we could move out (around 2k) but its not worth it.

Scrimp and save for as long as you can, when you move out you will have to pay rent, bills, tax etc etc anyway, without worrying about the extra £150 a month that u have to fork out for your loan.

Its better to save then move out, rather than get a loan and be an extra £150 down each month. That way its one less thing to worry about.

Around here you can get a 2/3 bed semi for £400 - £500 a month, then you need a months rent up front for a bond and money to get you started so you'd need at least £1500.

If you and your gf save now, and save £150 a month each you will have £1200 by xmas, then £1500 in January.

Have one last xmas at home, then make a fresh start at the beginning of the new year

IMO anyway thats my plan .... whoop whoop

If you cannot get hold of £2,000 between the two of you then you cannot afford to move out. Trust me, flats and houses do not come cheap!

True then you think ...

£450 rent
£100 food bill
£20 electric
£20 gas
£25 water
£90 council tax
£25 TV license - per 6 months
£20 home insurance
£20 internet
£140 petrol (say 2 tanks or whatever each btw)
£200 living - going out etc etc

totals around £550 a month each including everything.

have i missed anything?

Mines around £500 mortgage, £150 bills and then food on top. The inital costs are quite high which people don't think about.
