Either loosen the nut off (leave it on the spindle though) and yank it really hard, or use a steering wheel puller.

yankings pretty much useless, undo the nut (and take if off) shunt and pull it about, bang on it to loosen it off
it took me around 10-20 minutes, but It came in the end
be warned the spring underneath is a pain in the arse when it comes to putting it back on and getting the nut on, I recommend having 2 people (helps when hitting it off, our hands start hurting  )

erm, corsa requires a smaller type one, Don't think the halfords one will do it
