when my gsi's been idling for a bit i pull off and give the car a bit of stick and it doesnt pick up straight away its almost like its misfiring just wandering if this happens to anyone else? what it could be? or is it a common fault?

p.s it goes fine after i give it a bit of stick for a while
p.s.s do the c16xe engines rely on cool air?...could that be the problem?

Could either be the coolant temp sensor giving the ecu false sgnals.
Or your coil pack is breaking down, and when cold has a bit of moisture in, and then heats up when the engine gets hot, makign it fine again.

soz to hijack this thread but...

j1400 - I'm startin to think mine could be the coilpack now too, I replaced the CTS, yet its still doing it & getting slightly worse...

Spoke to Broster about this too, as my fuelpump is also whining but if the coilpack is fine, could it 'possibly' be ECU fault?

Stil gettin no errors though from the Management light

Hi Paul still going for the self porting thing? If so I'll give you some pointers.

Erm, I'd get hold of a coil pack and give it a try, as it's easy to swap, also get a multi meter and check the leads, as I've had this on a C14SE, all seemed ok, then woudl drop to 3 sometimes, turned out the lead on no 3 was jumping to the head

resitance should be no higher than 3kOhms.

And no it's not really an ecu "fault" if it still opperates fine most of the time

shall I bring my tool box to PV and have a fault finding corner on the CS stand

you could just do your own stand for fault finding & make a tidy sum from it

I wont be on the CS stand tho... got my own to sort out this year so will be 'deserting' you for it but will still come say hi (if I aint too shy or busy or sleepin)

I've got a multimeter at work, so will check the leads when I can... how exactly would I do this? Do I connect the ground to the car earthing point somewhere & jam the positive receptor up in the HT lead & just run the engine on 3-cyl's while testing each one? Not really done anything like this before you see...

Yeah will still be doing my own porting thing as soon as I get the other engine, which will probably be at PVS... gona sort it out with the 'supplier' soon enough on picking it up

Yeah spose I could have my own mini stand, will only be 4 of "my" cars attending though, ther other 4 are no able ot make it, so no stand for me

You just pull all the leads off and take them inside, then out the MM on each end, it's should be 1KOhm/metre + 1KOhm each end as a supressor, so 3 is a good to aim for, but lower is better, if you find you have to wiggle the leads, then they are dead.

As for porting, I can bring a bare head of a C16XE with me, and point out the basic bits to cover. But I subcontract the work, cause I can have it done cheaper than I could and to a much better std than a layman could.

that would be good with the head! seeing it proper is much better than seeing pictures

you cna multi meter the coils, but I forget the resurtance you're after, I know it's damn high, but can't put a number on it.

also worth checking there's a good 12v supply to the coil.

You MM between the power and then the ecu earths on each pin yellow/black red/black I think (if i'm right i really wish I could put this much effort and instant recall in to my degree )
