Does ne one no the answer to my question? when i was looking to buy my gsi i asked on here when the last gsi's were made. I cant remember who but i was told that N reg was the last GSI's made.

After i brought mine i blew the engine up and i have got a new one but i have been told it is out of a 1998 corsa GSI? is this right or am i being messed about and its only a sport or something??

Because i was also told that corsa and tigra engines are the same so did tigra's maybe still have a GSI at 1998?

neone help?

95-N GSi

I had one, Sly_SRi has one.

What you really want is a K-reg GSi, that is rare.

what year is your gsi?

if the engine was a straight swop, it will probably have been an x16xe to start with. which is the same as the ones fitted to the sports and tigras.

only the early gsi's came with the slightly better c16xe.

just asked that!

as long as yours was an x16xe to start with, everything should be fine. if you had the c16xe to start with, you will need a new ecu, immobilisor chip, tranponder key, and lots more......

worth checking before they fit it!

they dont seem to know too much about the engine they are working with from what uve said !

in this thread: (half way down there are 3 pics)

http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=183424

is your old one like the middle or bottom pic?

(easiest way for the garage to find out is too ask if it has the black plastic or metal silver inlet btw)

i paid £395 including delivery and VAT, was the cheapest i could find, i did get offered one off someone off here for around £200 i think it was but u dont get a guarentee buying off people so i thought it best to spend slightly more and have a back up, dont no about fitting the garage are ringing me up once they have recieved the engine to see what it is like apparently, how much should it roughly cost neone no? im having a new starter motor as well though because mine was fucked. having a new engine resolves the problem or a crank shaft gone as well doesn't it??

GSi history

K plate - VERY VERY RARE Reports suggest the very first GSi's Had a 1.6 8v out of the Nova GSi. I have been told this is untrue but i have no evidence to support either way.

L PLATE GSi 16v - 1.6 16v C16XE engine NON ECOTEC plastic inlet manifold - NO EGR 109bhp

M PLATE GSI 16v - 1.6 16v X16XE engine ECOTEC metal casting inlet manifold EGR EQUIPPED 106bhp

N PLATE GSI 16v - 1.6 16v X16XE engine ECOTEC metal casting inlet manifold EGR EQUIPPED 106bhp

Everything after this are all "SPORTS"

The reason why the engine changed between '94-'95 was because of the emission laws that changed in this period.

The first letter of every vauxhall engine code depicts what level of "Euro Emissions" Law it complies to.

C - LEVEL2
X - LEVEL3 (or 4 cant remember)

The M and N plate GSi's are basilly exactly the same as the sports just the bodykit being the difference and the colour options.

yes, replacing engine will solve crankshaft problem!

dunno about the cost of a starter, depends if it IS an new one, scrappy one or a re-con one.

engine fitting should be about £250 for a decent job. after all, its only a days work.

id also reccomend a new clutch and timing belt kit while its being done.
