I'm on the lookout for one at the moment...am i right in the thinking the '94 GSi (pre-ecotec) is alot quicker than the '95 onwards?? or is there very little difference?
I've seen some figures saying the '95 GSi has a 0-60 of 10.2 which is only slightly quicker than my SRi (10.5)...would appreciate if GSi owners could give me some info on this!

VERY little difference on standard
C16XE (pre-ecotec) - 0-60 in 9.3ish i think
X16XE (ecotec) - 0-60 in about 9,5ish
top speed only a few mph in it
C16XE has more torque lower down, X16XE has it higher up the rev range

exactly! i'm still getting used to the gsi now, but im pretty confident I know where the best power range is getting, and when to shift up/down gear to get best results
also got my gear change times down a hell of alot  about 3-quarters of a second or there abouts to clutch down, change & clutch up

i used ot be quick thru the gears but my linkage has slipped its hard to sellect all gears now

i just still have trouble with the clutch, but other than that i hope to get a good quarter-time when i finally get round to doing one
practicing launches... fekin hopeless in the wet, but dry

yes but they leave alot to be desired
like said, end of the day - its down to the skill of the driver & how efficiently they get the power down, conditions on the day, etc...
I wouldnt be suprised if GSi's do do better than book figures, but its when people say mine does it in about xxx seconds & then they ask where was it timed & they say my watch, its those figures which are out
but there really is naf-all difference in the 2 GSi's.

Oh rite, they look almost identical, i thought it would look completely different.....so are they completely different engines, or do they have the same block?

the block is the same i think but the internals and heads are different and the x16xe has EGR thingy.....

yay my engine  and yes, its an ecotec
there are quite a few differences... C16XE has the AFM next to the airbox/induction kit - whatever is there really where-as the X16XE doesnt have an AFM, but an AMM (air-mass-meter) near the inlet on the upper inlet manifold
C16XE inlet manifold is plastic, where X16XE is cast-alloy, so the C16XE can be a rattly bitch
X16XE has the EGR on the front (you can see it, has a big black pipe going from it) C16XE doesnt
compression ratios are different I think,. but only slightly, and ECU is different, aswell as exhaust downpipe, some other bits...
they both have there own good points & bad points, but end of the day its your choice... do you go for an extra 3bhp & an older engine, or a newer one

that one i couldnt say, as I've not heard a C16XE, but tbh I shouldnt think there will be much difference in sound

No difference in speed between the two at all.
I managed a 9.1 0-60 in my GSi at Brunthingthorpe, that was a X16XE
