Anyone? Ive got a knocking sound when driving and play in the wheel when jacked up so i guss its the bearing but how do i change it? And do i need any special tools?

you cant do it unless you have a hydrolic press.
go to vaux buy the new barings( do them both at the same time) take to hub cariers off your car and bring them to a machine shop and they will press the old parts out and new ones in....

What sort of price would 2 new bearings be from vaux then?
And have you got a pic of a hub carrier?

TBH you probably dont have a hydraulic press or ball joint splitter so i'd buy the bearings from Vaux (about £40 each) and get your local garage to do it.

£40 each! Thats quite a bit! oh well if it needs doing. Going to get camber tracking done today tomas then the coilovers will be happy!

go to local factors, they're abotu £25 there. then stip the wheel off brake disc caliper and undo the drive shaft, steer rack rod end and bottom ball joint. then take it to local gargae they'll charge abotu 10-15 labour to press the new on in place.

So does that mean i will need to remove driveshaft and track rod end from it? And how is that done?
Also is it worth doing this before i get the tracking done?

It all unbolts, dude, count the threads on the track rod ends so when ya put em back it will be tracked ok, drive shafts just pull out the gearbox, you can seperate the ball joint with the persuader tool (hammer)

anyways ya dont need to break the balljoints at all just sperate them were they join to the lower arms/tiebars

Ok guys im taking the car over to local wheel place to have camber looked at so i can set it then do tracking and also ask them if they can do wheel bearing.
What would be a reasonable price for a garage to do a bearing and them supply parts?

Went to vaux and bought new bearing £41 inc vat. And found someone who will press old one out and new one in for a fiver! But ive gotta take stripped down hub carrier to them. So now my task is to do that before 5pm!
Can someone give me a step by step to removing hub carrier and stripping down ready for new bearing?

jack car up onto axel stands
take wheel off
u will need a 30mm socket and a masshoove breaker bar for the fun bit.
take the split pin out of the castle nut
get someone to stand on the brake pedal while u undo the nut it will be reall really tight.
when thats off undo the 2 bolts that hold the brake caliper on( u will need a 10mm HEX tool for this.
tie the caliper to the spring on your shock absorber using some string... dont let it dangle on the brake pipe.
undo the philps screw that hold the brake disk on... take the disk off.
undo the 2 bolts that hold the balljoint to the lower arm
undo the 2 bolts that hols the hub carier to the shock
get your hammer out and hammer the hub carier so that the hub itself slides off the drive shaft....
seem like alot but its about 30 mins work provided you have the tools

I'd suggest instead of removing the 19mm nut and bolts for the ball joint, undo the 13mm nut and bolt just above, as it's less work to do, then WD40 it and slide it out. also you need a 17mm for the track rod end. undo this on the bolt that hold it to the carrier, it's underneath the track rod end.
This is tapered and if it starts to turn you'll need to get some grips on it to stop it spinning.

Thanks guys thats really appreciated! ..................................................................But After going to undo the wheel to take it off i noticed all the wheel nuts were loose so i thought shit i hope i havent just bought a bearing when i didnt need to. And thats all the problem was a loose fucking wheel nut!!!! And i just spent £40 on a bearing

Take it back for a refund. Sounds silly but I thought it might be that, they normally just grumble when the bearing has gone and I nearly lost a wheel late last wheel when I forgot to tighten then bolts and decided to go on a mission. Got some HORRENDOUS noises after 10 miles!! Mate had to come out with a wrench cos I dont have on in the car....
Bet u feel like a right plonker!

Lol Yes!!! Yeah i cant believe it either came loose or more likely i forgot to tighten it! I think i will try for a refund.
Also just been down the wheel alignment place they say the camber is 1 degree each side but the track rod lock nut is seized so tonight is a night of lubracant and persuation! Also gotta raise her up a bit as its still rubbing. What do you guys with 17's do about rubbing on fronts?
