If I were to fit an x20xev in to my corsa b 1.4 16v sport (x14xe) will the car need re-wiring, bearing in mind they are both Ecotecs? Any help appreciated!

you will need to change the engine wiring looms, and there are about 10 or so wires that need connecting up, its note too hard

yes, as half the sensons on the 1.4 loom wont ply into the x20 for a start

Yep you'll need to swap enbgine looms and then plumb the car loom to the ecu loom, live, fuel pump, switched live, tacho.
Also a possiblity of immobiliser issues but I'm not 100% on that, a redtop is a better choice overall though.

Ive thought of the idea of a Redtop but to find a good one with low milage is gunna be hard, x20xev's though are more readily availible and younger!

XE for me btw

i picked one up for 250 with box, loom + ecu, FVSH and 80k. runs really well compared to the last one i paid 400 for and was a bag of shit.

Do a bit of research and choose carefully, theres more than you think out there!

The differences between the engines are extensive. The only thing which is similar is the block, but only just. the heads are very different, as is the ecu and so on. also the ecotec engines are based on the 2L 8v engines, and as such they are not as good. they have been known to wear much faster than the 20XE's, especially in the rings and pistons area. the exhaust manifold is a cast upper and bolt on down pipe arrangement on the ecotec, where as a full stainless tubular job is found on the redtop. Also importantly you can easily say any redtop is pre '92 and no CAT is required gaining you (a little) extra power, and less hassle with exhausts.

I used to have a X20XEV (ecotec) in my MK3 astra running 45mm TB's on it, and it ran 165BHP. I've since swapped it to a std redtop and the car is actually quicker now because of the midrange torque advantage I gained from the swap, also MPG is better and it's quiter, which for a daily was impmortant to me.
