Author dial lights not working

one of the main bulbs behind the dials has stopped working.

normally I would guess it's a dead bulb but for a couple of things:

when I tested it by swapping the bulbs, neither bulb worked. the working bulb didn't work in the dead slot.

i then tried swapping the holders over but with no luck.

it seems that something in the connection on the board may be dead.

any ideas?
