i used to take meticulous care of my car - until i smashed up front and rear bumpers last year - just b4 trax - that was when my wiring went wrong to (was untraceable overfuelling problem at first)

all in these things [pissed me off loads and I couldnt be arsed with it nemore- hence wanting to sell - b4 I did ne lasting damage - however now Ive decided to keep shes getting a thorough clean 2moro - inside/outside, waxed, tcutted polished, hoovered and seats restored -wheels are coming off and being treated - repaint drums/calipers, new brake pads/disks - and finish the repairs to front and rear bumper - give them a coat of paint - to mask them -and finish off the repairs -then I'll get serious in february and put her in the workshop - strip her and get busy with the fibreglass (wait and see) - should be ready for Donny

Just as an EXample of Beardy's point about removing things and Finding Rust patches...

When my corsa looked like this it got well looked after...

when my skirts were stolen and my bumper damaged AGAIN! the cars darkest secrets came out... (look along sill)

Was pretty rusty.. thank god Starkie never took the shell cos when it was craned away for the Scrappie i could see it starting to crack on the Sill

waxoyl - is atreatment for under the car - prevents rust - like a thick tarry like paint - u apply all over the "not visible" parts

yeah - I do all under the car about once a year - its exactly what it says on the tin a waxoil - that u paint on - is horrible stuff and stinks - and isnt the best of stuff to get in your eyes; but gives a water resistant and hence rust proofing layer

I have the wheels off every month or so, check the insides of the arches/suspension/brakes for rust, wear etc.
Check the engine bay whenever the bonnet's up, check under the car at the back, round the exhaust etc every month if I remember.
It's not cleaned so much in Winter, as it'll just get dirty again next time I take it out.
I remove things like the rear lights and clean round behind them.

all the mechanical stuff is extremelly well maintained probably cos i can do 95% of the work myself....

the body however gets put through the carwash.... sometimes

it aint rusty though.... but i would dream of putting plastic or fibreglass bits on it....

i much rather prefer a fast shaby piece of iron and a shinny plastic slow one....
