atm, i have a 1.2 8v engine which is slow as hell and giving me lots of problems. Its done 120,000 miles.Recently had a new head gasket fitted(3 weeks ago), but somthing has gone on it again (yesterday) i broke down on m56 just afder junction 14 heading towards warrington.Car would not start even with jump leads from RAC.When the head gasket blew all i got was major over heating afder 5 miles then a loud clunking noise, like a spoon in a can tin, rattling very very fast...i got tht sorted.

3 weeks have gone bye and i started getting the "clunking" noise on way to wales....my mate in his punto could hear it! no over heating though.. it stopped for a while...then on way back from wales...lights started coming up, engine lost power...over heating....but no steam unlike last time.

Would it be worth just getting a secound hand 1.2 16v, which has done about say 70,000 and replancing tht with the currecnt 1.2 8v thts coming upto 120,000? I carnt afford 5 grand for 1.4 insurance group so thts out of the question.

£5k is not shopping around.

Putting a 1.2 16v in your car makes it a modified car. I'd be very surprised if an SRi or Sport is still difficult to insure when you compare a standard one vs yours with the transplant.

like i told you the other day Matty some insurance companies will do u on bhp increase which is 44-75 for a 1.2 16v and if you stuck a sport engine in 44-90 which is 100% increase and insurance will fook u! Its a hard choice personally I would take everything out/ off of your current corsa and stick it in a sport? but depends how much muney u got, they did do 1.4 8v sris in carabic blue didnt they which is another alternative?
