Ive just took out car insurance with tesco but she said that having a cat 1 alarm/imobiliser doesnt make any difference to price- same when i added it to my last policy. I thought that having this sort of security device should have some affect on the price???
Not too bothered as i got it for 305 with tesco instead of 636 with NU
but just wondered if any companies take security into account?

Some take it into account and others don't although as a general rule most companies won't insure high risk vehicles for theft without a cat 1 immobilser.

I got the impression they werent really bothered about other mods unless they altered the engine performance. worked out about £50 extra for my mods.

Aye that's because no matter how many modifications it's still not considered high risk

sorry whats VSIB? its wrong though really because you try and make your car safer but doesnt alter insurance, but they quick to pile on the money with mods.

Regardless of insurance it's still a good idea to have a cat 1. Imagine how you would feel waking up and you motor was gone It's not 100% but they do make it a lot harder for someone to steal.

Yeah i wouldnt be without one- piece of mind if nothing else just annoys me that they dont take it into account that its a bit (usually) safer.
