what is the aim of having one? i just fancied asking as i'm sure that people have them for various reasons, wether it be to blow their ears out or to get the 14 year old bits of skirt to notice them

I used to think that having a mega loud system was super dooper... It is a cool feeling having the sub pumping away, but it is stupid if you are driving, and when you go down a high street you do actually look like an ass - honestly, I have been walking everyhwere, and waiting for busses e.t.c... for a while now, every time somone comes past blasting 50 cent, I just have to think 'cock'.

Yea, but it gets pretty tchnical at that level. You can get it up to about 130-140db easily, but after that you need to scratch your head... It's not like some knob in a Corsa with 10 subs in the boot can win...

Richie loves his, and is really good at getting the best output he can from his system, and all the technical stuff

I wouldnt say he was a pikey, far from.

not wishing to state the obvious, but it's a hobby.

why spend money on bodystyling, does that make you super cool.

why make your car faster?

some people are into speed, some peole are into aesthetics, some people are into electronics and music.

world would be full(er) of fucked up weirdos if no-one had a hobby.

theres a big difference between a pikey sound system and something like ally said about richies etc
the pikey spent a few hundred quid down halfords, buying crud...whereas richie spent a few grand, spent a good day installing it, spent another *how many days* setting it up...and been tweaking it ever since and spending more cash on it.

however, the only reason i would get a decent sound system, a propper SQ system at that, is to test my pre-production music and final pieces

You make your car faster to get yourself from A to B quicker.

Those that are into aesthetics rarely are, they're just into glueing on the latest bit of plastic tat that magazines and the "modding scene" tell them to.

Competition level ICE obviously has a purpose, but most installs are just noise and bad noise at that.
I spend a couple of hours driving every day and I'm lucky that the radio is good enough for my listening tastes, so I can quite happily make do with the standard tape headunit.
Should I ever go for an amp and sub, I'll definately have a CD packed full of the cheesiest shite to raise the hem lines of every piece of skirt about might even have a late lunch break to go and sit outside school

The same reason we laugh at people wearing Burberry or people with neons and LED washer jets on their car - because we don't think it's cool and therefore feel obliged to pass comment on other people's "tastes".

it's because you mentioned 'cakes' they automatically assume there will be a pop, cakes and crisps disco on and immediately rush to get jiggy with it.
