How do you stand when you buy a new car that has no tax and you are awaiting an insurance cover note for the car? Is there a period of grace to allow for this common problem?

regardless, if it's private or at a garage, the car should be declared SORN if its not taxed!

If your buying froma garage, as good faith, I'd ask them to tax it!

I take it you are buying the car from a garage. When i bought my car, they taxed it for me and i just added the money onto the bill. They didn't ask me for an insurance cert until i picked the car up.

No its a private sale, but the car has no tax on and the car is no longer insured

Don't think garages can put tax on anymore because of changes in the law the insurance cert has to be regestration specific and not just a general trade policy

I'd just wait for your policy and then tax it.
