ive got the Radeon 9800PRO Atlantis Ultimate128mb card and it was miles better than my GeForce card! when i play my games i run a 1280x1024 resolution, with every details set on HIGH and MAXIMUM, i still manage to get 100fps (human eye only registers 60)

anf imo, u only get a few extra FPS from a 256 mb card compared to a 128. as long as the card is a good one, u might aswel go for a 128, as it is MUCH cheaper

holy shite!! i cant keep up!!! u lot confusing the sh1t out of me
ok basically il tell u lot what my budget is....
£500 MAXIMUM all together.... for the tower only (using my own moniter, mouse, keboard and speakers)
And to tell u the truth anything will be more powerfull/faster than wat i have now
but i want it to last a while so i want it pretty fast/powerfull and upto date 
so give me a whole PC "spec" i can get, considering my budget and that my mate can get it a bit cheaper for me compared to most places????

oh you'll also need a minimum of 450W PSU, and Case ontop of that, so you 'will' be breaking the £500 mark.

do you sell them? is that a good price for that spec? as my mate can get me pc stuff cheap also
i aint got a clue about some the things u listed!! but i would rather have 1G of ram and a 256MB graphics.......basically i just need it for Games, internet and downloading so if it can do that with no sweat then its perfect for me

I've got similiar (albeit I'm only running a GF4 Ti4200 card), also my 2600+ is running a 'tad' faster than that.
Clocked down tho to similiar speeds, I have no problems in running the latest games at all, UT2004 runs nice & smooth in 1024x768, as does RTCW, far-cry, NFSU, the leaked 'beta' of Doom 3...

that price is roughly my budget.....but i might aswell just go all the way and get a 256Mb Radeon9600 XT graphics and a 3000+ chip set or even a 3200+

No, ATI 9800 Pro 128Mb is faster then the 256MB.
Accessing the memory slows it down, so not worth the extra money.

Get a seagate baracuda 7000.7 120gb hard drive, its the quietest hd you can get for the performance and i think its under 70 quid. I just put an 80 gb in my mac and it has halved the noise.

get a 9800 Pro, u wont look back mate, heres some pics of mine:
as u can c, mine has a huge double sided heatsink to keep it cool so it keep performing!! the 256mb in this card is not worth the extra money, get the 128mb, u really wouldn notice the difference anyway!!

Right now there is not a lot of point getting a 256Mb card, no games require it. By the time a game does require that kind of memory, the GPU will probably be holding the performance back, not the amount of memory. (although valve have stated a 256mb offer a perfomance increase in HL2)
The first 256 cards were slower than the 128Mb cards because of the slower memory used to reduce cost. Get one with good, fast memory and this won't be an issue.
A 9800 Pro 128Mb should be all you need.

there about a £200 difference so stick with 128mb version.
Also make sure your apg port supports it

I still prefer nVidia cards over ATI cards, as every nVidia I've had has outperformed every ATI I've seen running......at the end of the day, it's all down to personal preference, as similarly-priced cards (made by ATI and nVidia) are going to perform pretty similarly.
