was on my way to a University placement assement in Swindon. On my way got caught in traffic going through Bath. When i got onto the M4 i basically stayed at the same speed as everyone else to get there on time at 9am.

I was doing about 80ish when i noticed on a bridge a plain white van with what looked to be a camera setup on a tripod watching wither side of the motorway. So i put me put on my brakes after checking my rear mirror to drop down to 70.

Not sure if i did so in time. I know alot of you will say you shouldn't have been speeding blah blah blah. Its very rarely i do. Just wondering if anyone knows if it was a speed camera or jsut a traffic monitoring device.

There was plenty of cars in front of me going quicker than what i was. i hope it won't a camera

You'd have to have been doin around 85 on ur clocks to have been done.

If you were doin the same speed as everyone else, then i wouldnt worry.

i thought about getting pics on the way home with my mobile camera. But its very dodgey and i would have probably crashed.

Basically it was a very small thing ontop a tripod. look more like one of those engineer things they use for finding angles on a site.

@ 80 the chances of getting caught are very slim. You were probably only doing a real world 75 odd

hopefully it was tax disc thingy used by the DVLA

I did think they had to have speed camera signs within a certain radius of the cameras or the van has to be marked.

Anyway i will defo think twice before breaking the limit agian

Yesterday I went to Weston Supremare and back (all on M4/M5)

took me about 2 hours 20 mins on the way there (traffic was pretty poo), bout 4pm... I think I saw that van... I slowed down for it, but It looked to me just like a van parked (I looked for open doors... nothing?)

Then accelerated back up to quicker speeds...

On the way back (1:30 am (I left)), I literally did 105-110 mph all the way... and it took about 1 hr 15 mins

Was absolutely no traffic at all - I saw a police car while I was doing these speeds, but he was pulling someone else , slowed down, went past and then accelerated back up to speed.

I saw no camera's on bridges on the way back (pitch black)

Though interestingly blasting down some country roads on the way home, once I was off the motorway I had a police car follow me all the way to my house then drove past slowly (2nd time they've done this...)

yeah must have been the same van. I saw it at 8.30am and about 2.45pm yesterday and it had two tripods either side. No doors were open on the van.

This was round about junction 16/17 on m4
