there is a really annoying ratteling noise coming from my engine, it started off making the noise just now and again but today it has been happening constantly,
its a hard noise to describe, but it does seem to increase in speed with the engine speed
any ideas of what it could be and what would need to be done to sort it.
it does not seem to effect the engine at all
and it is a 1l 12v engine

like a tinny rattle?
exhaust heat-shield on the manifold would be first guess, just take it off see if it goes. the lil buggers have a habit of rusting where they bolt down!

yup down pipe heatshield or cat heatshield
just remove it

it aint the heat sheilds just checked today
sounds like it is coming from the fan belt area, could it be the timing chain slapping against its casing.
there is a spring next to the fan belt that looks quite rusty though

Mine sounds like a diesel when mine is idleing. It is like a tapping noise coming from the engine. Could this be the same thing on mine? i also have the 1.0 12v

i had that problem, mechanic said it was the water pump had gone so had it changed along with the timing belt.
