vtr's are only 8v as well mate....I own a 1.6 sport which are 16v and trust me mate they piss all over vtr's...but vts's are quicker than corsa 1.6 sports but i give 'em a run for their money!!! I wouldn't recommend a saxo tho mate as they all seem to fuck up imo, 3 of me m8z have 'em and engine stopped working on one, something else went wrong on the other 2... its personal opinion tho!

mate go for the 16 sport as L330 says they Fcuk up alot,
gear boxes, clutches especially and mad electrics!!!
i had a 106 gti and it gave me problem after problem til i finally got rid of it.

now i have a Mk6 RS2000 and its the dogs very underrated, reliable and quicker than the Gti.....

Go for the sport u can tune it quite easily to beat VTS's anyway, without the reliability problems.

my 1.4 16v Sri keeps up wi a VTR that has an extra person in it. u c saxos are a heap of dung and are wile light. but there only 16 8v so lasck a bit of power. a 16 16v wil eat a VTR no probs stick 2 ppl in a VTS and just one peron in a 16 16v corsa and the saxo wil just a bout beat u

i have a 1.4 16v sport and i can whoop the earlier VTRs that are 90 brake but the newer ones (100bhp) are quicker to 80 but evens out after that, my mate has a 16 sport and the difference between mine and his is minimal, can't pass me below 90

Saxos are heaps. hate the bastards. VTS isnt all that quick. Ugly unreliable the list goes on. my mate had one and he had nothing but trouble from it. hes got rid of it now cos he couldnt put up with it.

I had two VTR's, first one 90 then later the 98 bhp one, not much difference between them and a 1.416v Corsa was nearly as fast, a 1.6 16v corsa was quicker, as in by the time u hit third it was like about 20 ft away, I mean not loads quicker but quicker.

As for the VTS, some VTS seem to be quicker than others, forget all that 120, 130 stuff, I drive two std R regs one was quicker than others. Drove a W reg one which was much slower than a T reg one, all at car dealers.

VTR's are more consistant.

Also worth considering are the Zetec S fiesta, in black looks nice and has ABS, traction control, handles real good. Drives nicer than a Corsa or Saxo.

Just an idea.

Zetec S are a great car, my brother had one last year it was just a wee bit faster than a 1.6 sport but hardly noticeable. but put the 2 cars in to a roundabout or a corner and the Zetec S leaves it, great all round car and very nice lookin, my bros was imperial blue which looked fkn class....Good choice Whitter

so much bullshit on this page.
1) 1.6 Sport/GSi is quicker in every aspect of straight line racing against a Zetec S, they have very weak engines.
2) the X16XE is far superior to the X14XE, both torque and power. Also the 1.6 has a better ratio gearbox for the engine, and i had no trouble in overtaking 1.4's wheni had mine.
3) VTR is slower than a Sport 1.6, and just like the Zetec S, will be left following rather than overtaking or staying alongside.

well cybermonkey thats just ur experience, just when my bro raced the sport he pulled a car or 2 but it was a very tight race, maybe he had momentum who knows??
Remember they have very similar power output and weigh much the same...
but it out handles it by a mile....
And yes 16 is alot quicker than 14 but not really untill 3rd...its like any quick car their extra power shows more so in mid range and top end.
Most cars are similar in 1st and 2nd off the lights unless its like racing a 4wd or something with alot more power.

Just being realistic about it, figures on paper and figures on the road are to very differnt things.
