Is that behind the dash? my heaters work, they just don't get hot, they blow out warmish air, not very warm though, usually freeze to death on the way to work.

Nope. Just take the top rad hose off, undo the 3 bolts and swap it iirc.

Check if the header tank gets warm gradually, as the rest of the engine does, or if the rest of the engine gets hot with the header tank still being cold.

If its cold then gets hot after the rest of the engine is getting very hot then the thermostat is fine.

About £60 from vaux as they only sell them with the housing.

I got a motor factor one for about £6.

You dont have to flush the system, just top it up and run it at idle til very hot with the header tank cap off and heaters on. You wont loose much water from there as its at the top of the engine.

u might have an airlock in the heater matrix. When refilling your your coolant from empty u should always put the heater to hot so as when u refill with water it goes to the matrix as well, and u dont get any trapped air there.
