if u dont take the plate off then its lost, same as when some1 steals ur car, the plate goes, its lost im afraid, all u can do is get in contact with the people that now own ur car and see what they say, or you can get ur letters from the insurers and make a claim against them and gat some compo!

I wanted to BUT they wouldn't let me take the plates off the car....!!

soon as u hand over the log book its their car, if u still had the log book then it could be taken off. did u have them on ur insurance, get in contact with some legal type bods they shud help u on this, citizens advice will help you

when u sold the car to the insureres (ie when they gave u money) didnt you have to give them the log book, i did when i had my old car written off! go steal it back lol! surely when the car was written off when it was put back on the road it should run a Q plate?

no as they know the identity of it

the only time Q is used is for cars which the age can not be determined

e.g kit cars with bits off different aged cars
stolen / recovered with no vin plates etc
