Couldnt undo the fucking brake hose nut on the old calliper

I tried for ages to undo it but the nut is slowly starting to become rounded. I cant do that for much longer or else its never coming off, not with conventional methods anyway.

Anyone got any suggestions on how i can safely remove this nut?

Why would you want to undo the bleed nipple on the old caliper, do you mean the new one?
If the new ones are 2nd hand and the nipple is stuck, try a penetrating oil like plus gas, WD40 or similar and letting it soak for a while, this might loosen it.

But don't force them, or you'll end up snapping the top off.

Need to get the nut off the old calliper or i cant attatch the brake hose to the new ones. I have used about 1/4 of a can of WD40 and still no joy. Like Cobra says i cant force it too much or it'll just brake or round it self off too much.

You mean the actual brake hose nut, not the bleed nipple. This shouldn't snap but might be difficult if you've started to round it off.
Try the grips like Anton says and maybe a gentle tap with a hammer.
Or you could take it to your local tyre fitters and I'm sure they would undo it it for you for a drink.

Yes the nut, sorry. I really didnt want to take it to a garage but if it comes to it i will. I'll give it another soaking in WD40 and try one last time.

does it matter if the bolt snaps off in the existing caliper?? after all if he is changing the calipers then it doesn't matter, just buy a new bolt for the new ones.

Its the nut on the on of the brake hose that can't be undone, if it breaks or whatever, its not just a case of replacing the nut, but a new hose assembly.
Nath, when I suggested a tye fitter, they shouldn't charge you labour etc. Tell them your problem and they will probably sort it for a drink.
Alternately, come down to Luton and try Supertyres on Dunstable Rd. The boss there is a great guy, I've been there a few times with siezed or snapped bolts etc. They have sorted it just for a couple of quid in their tea kitty.
Failing that, undo the hose from the other end and fit new/braided hoses with the brakes.

did you use a ring spanner on the nut or an open ender, ring spanner is usually best. if its badly rounded try a smaller size socket (metric/imperial) hammer the bugger on if needed and use a power bar.
if that don't work it's angle grinder time .

Bit difficult to get a ring spanner on over the hose, unless the other end is undone first.

guys, hes not on about changing the hoses, the bolt which holds the hose onto the caliper, of course you can replace it, it comes out. it will be about 50p from a motor factors for a new one, ive got loads of them spare.

snap the bolt off, remove hose, buy new bolt, bin old caliper with broken bolt in it, or if you can be arsed drill it out after. fit new caliper, use new bolt to hold hose onto caliper.

Yes but my way he only needs new rubber hoses from the motor factors and his old calipers will be fine... No snapping bolts/drilling. Just replace the rubber hose from the union with the new 2.0l caliper with supplied banjo bolt...

Spose but it means he writes the old caliper off, plus he's rounding the head off so it may not shear the head off like he wants, it may just slip... Get a better, tighter ring spanner and crack it a few times with a hammer to shock it loose?

if it's the same as my old nova when i put the valver callipers on that there is a special bolt that clamps the hose termination to the calliper,it's an open bolt with a special thread and you shouldn't need to get the spanner loop over the hose.
I maybe wrong though.
I have some valver brakes/callipers lying in my workshop, I'll take a look tomorrow .
