My educated guess would be a knackered monitor......if it's within warranty, try taking it back?

if its getting as hot as you say & its shutting itself off - get it fixed if under warranty or replaced ASAP

it could catch fire!

One of mine went pop a year or so ago, basically my printer is above my pc / monitor and I had loads of sheets of paper sitting on top of my monitor - covering the air vents

Got too hot, and I was sitting in the other room and heard a large bang / pop noise - came in, blank screen, the smell of burnt stuff and a bit of smoke coming out the top.

My monitor atm, is a bit fucked - it sometimes flickers and images go yellow and basically fucks up.

I want to get a flat one next.
