Is anyone graduating this academic year (2004 graduation) and looking for a job? If so, what are you looking to get into and hows the search going? Just thought I would ask as I have started to apply and its a real pain Also, what Uni are you hoping to graduate from?

My brothers mate graduated last year, and still hasnt found work, people have these visions that if they goto uni, graduate.. blah blah, that they will come out with a sound job at the end of it, which isnt always the case!

good luck with searching mate if you're dying for a job, goto mcdonalds, even as a site manager, you'll only earn minimum wage so i've heard...

I have a pretty strong CV, good GCSEs, good A levels, good school, good uni etc. Its just such a pain filling in application forms and then going through the process.

Got a final interview on Friday with a very large company for a place on a fast track graduate finance scheme. Already had a CV/application form screening, initial interview, assessment centre and now a final interview with three directors Still, would be worth it if I got the job, top starting salary and really quick career progression. Plus it would nice to have a job sorted before exams etc.

Wish me luck!

They must be unlucky. What exactly does 'sport science' lead to?

not unlucky, there just isn't the jobs in that field because so many people do it as a degree now. same with all of them really, i know loads of my mates are doing business/it degrees.
the money nowadays is in the practical jobs like plumbing, etc... very few people do apprentaships now.

thats true. a mate of mines dad set up his own plumbing business a while back and now makes good money. There are still loads of opportunities out there for graduates though aswell to make real money, especially if you can get onto a structured graduate scheme.

nowadays its not hard to get a degree, so employers don't take as much notice anymore. Its experience that they look for, and also vocational qualifications.

Its the people that take courses that have nothing to do with the job they are applying for that annoy me.

Its easy to get a degree, but very difficult to get a worthwhile degree. Also, all of the employers I have applied to won't even read your application form without a 2.1 from a good uni and at least 26UCAS point (ABB).
