Right heres the thing ma mate has got a gsi 16v and for a while now it has been extremly slow in the acceleration and will not pick up and when it does the engine management light appears and flashs he been to a number of garages and had it hooked up to a computer and no faults was found ther cat has been checked, filters replaced, timing belts replaces. and all the usaull stuff but seems to be a other problems something that noone is able to find out what it is.

Anyone have a similler problem.

mine has similar problem, it hesitates to acclerate as if ders no power!
but this is only while engine is cold!
think could be sumthing to do with your idle control valve

Surely if the warning light is coming on then a fault is being detected and can be read?

it said there was no fault detected. the light goes off when he restarts the car.

EGR valve

and the ECU will hold the last fault code no matter if the light goes off or not

Light has to be on for more than 30 seconds to log a fault

Aye cheers lads for the info and is there any more sujestions its not the idle value

Check out the EGR valve/or hgv valve.

Is this a fault with the corsa GSI's

had a similar problem, the car was slower that it should have been,,,,,,turned out that my oil control rings on the pistons were too small, and were not fully in contact with the bores so i was burning a shizzle load of oil.......not good

my Gsi DRINKS oil!
so if the piston rings were fuked is this all that cud cause this ?

No. The cams are mechanical, for the warning light to come on an electrical fault must have been detected. How many miles has the engine done?

If his camshaft was worn, the engine would be misfiring badly, maybe giving off lean/rich fuel signals to ECU

I once had my cam timing out 3 teeth on one side, 2 teeth on the other and never got any codes up.

Worn cams would have been a gradual process, wouldn't happen overnight.

well he says it is.

its not nearly as fast as it should be though, but its been like this since he got it.
pals 1.4 sri whipped his ass. what could help regain its potential performance? if anything can.

I had the same problem with my GSI it was down on power and for no apparent reason, there was only one thing for it, get a new C16XE engine and get it modded and re-built, you could do the same but dont do what i did and get totalled on a roundabout the next day after getting me car back DOH!!!!!!!! Me engine could be for sale very soon wiating to get confirmation its a write off, my engine has about 140BHP+ if ya interested

If he's been told its worn cams then get them changed. Just tell the garage that does the work that your only paying if it fixes it!

I would get the cam timing double (or triple) checked. I had this problem with my old 1.4 16v. 2 so called professionals from reputable tuners checked it, for it to be found to be a total of 5 teeth out by my student mate!
