At the moment I am on a 24 month contract with o2 (mobile phone contract), I can't upgrade until August this year so basically in 7 months time (well, 6 months from tomorrow lol).

I'm pretty sure I read on here somewhere about being able to pay to get out of a contract - but is that basically paying whatever the line rental is > contract end, or just a set "fee"?

Does anyone on here know about this or should I ask someone at the o2 shop near me when I'm in town tomorrow?

It will be your line rental, times whatever months remain. Can be costly. I usually sell my phone 3 months before the contract end and use the money to pay for the remaining line rental. Keep the sim and use the minutes and get a new phone for free on a new contract.

The shop will be sales, you want a quote ring the customer service number!

It will be something like the line rental between then and now minus VAT.

Just did a bit of a Google search, looks like you're right re. contract cancellation: line rental ex. VAT x 6 x 2 = £306.36... 6x line rental inc. VAT = £183.84.

I reckon at best I could get £100 for my phone if I sold it, use that towards the outstanding line rental and just pay the remaining £83.84.

Hmmm...

My other question - I hear companies like Phones4u will "buy" you out of your current contract - is it likely that they would buy me out even though I've still got another 6 months to go?

I'll ask them tomorrow when I'm out but thought I'd ask on here in the meantime.

Phones4u only offer £50 cashback on any iPhone (by phone only, stores don't offer cashback).

They offered me £155 cashback if I got a HTC Desire HD on a £35 contract with o2 (24 months).

£35 a month is quite expensive for the Desire HD isnt it?

That's T-Mobile though, the prices they quoted me were for o2.
