so after all this do you believe its the chain?! hope you can getit fixed mate iv heard hundreds of those engines rattlig and it would do my head in if it was mine! hope my input help shame you dont live nearer coz i could have fixed for you.

I have always believed it was the chain. But the fact that my mechanic said at the last service, 200 miles ago that it was fine as he took the rocker cover off. But warren.g told me that he wouldn't have been able to see.
Looks like I'll have to investigate getting it sorted. Been talking to warren though as he doesn't live too far.
My engine has always been loud and I've done 10k miles in it, so I've either been ultra lucky, or it's just noisey.

Same as that. Being a 12v the car actually sits at 70mph a lot nicer now.
Warren - mine did sound like a Porsche engine, your dad said so
