I know that its down the block right next to the gearbox, should C20XE14xxxxxxxxx.

Mine says F25115110 What the hells that all about. :boogle:

I'm trying to sort out the MOT, but they wont test it to pre 93 until i find out the engine number. That one i've got doesn't quite sound right to me.

Sounds like a later type engine number (might be wrong though)

Will your MOT tester check the number?

I have a 20XE block which is pre-cat, you could pinch the number

You sure the F isn't the E on the end of C20XE

Some do get worn out, so it makes it hard to tell...

I'm getting it done by Vauxhall, and they want to know what the engine number is so they can check what year it is. So i dont want to give them that number until i find out what it is, otherwise if it is a late one they'll tell me i need a cat. Just want to find out before hand really.

I couldn't see any c20xe bits on there, just an f which could poss be an e. I've put the engine code on the log book as a 20xe in the hope they would only look at that bit and say ok it doesn't need a cat.

Because when i had my last one, they were the only people that understood that the engine didn't need a cat. They've said that they will test it to pre 93 emissions, if i give them my engine number and they find out what its from. Also i get discount from vauxhall.

But the engine number i've got doesn't seem the same as anyone else's. The register of 20xe engine codes on mig all seem to start 141 or 140. where as mine says 251.

Really? Didn't know that would work!

How am i going to prove that it doesn't need a cat and should be tested to pre 93 emissions?

Give 'another' Vauxhall garage a call and ask the parts department to identify your engine from the Engine Number you have. Then you know if its safe to give the Vauxhall dealer doing the MOT, the engine number.

Not a bad idea that NotMyCorsa

Yeah i think there's something under the oil cap, vauxhall will still want proof tho. They were trying to tell me i need to have the reg, model and vin number for the car the engine came out of Righty-o.

I dont know what cambelt set up mines got. Or if dizzy engines were made after 92. Im really helpful

They want to see my V5 though, and thats got the engine code on it.

Think i;m gonna have to cive them the numer i've got and see what they say. if they wont do anything with it i'll have to take it somewhere else.

No i did it i put the one on the block down on the v5 and sent it off as it was stll a 1.4 on there. Is the bock not a c20xe one then? If they type in that number will it come up with an 8valver or something?

the block may be a new one from vauxhalls hence the different number. may be 16v or 8v. unsure. u would have to get in touch with the bloke who built the engine maybe

will be a 20xe if its not cat tested. the c in c20xe means it meets euro emission criteria hense needs a cat. any block with c20 on it will be tested like this however this is the first time ive heard of a later car with a precat engine getting tested the easy way. might go to vaux in future
