Looking for some advice on a problem thats come up with my Corsa C 1.7 CDTI. Over the past week the engine seems to have delevoped a rattling/slight squealing noise. I had a friend that works for a garage look at it for me but hes stumped to the cause of it.
The problem is something of an odd one, but i'll explain it the best that i can. The noise is only there between 1500-2000rpm (goes away above that), only happens in 3rd, 4th or 5th gears (doesnt do it if the car isnt moving or is moving slowly) and only happens if the throttle is pressed (stops as soon as you left off between that rpm).
It certainly seems engine related, but not the engine internals themselfs, as you can take it all the way to 5k with no rattle, its only between that 500rpm band. The ideas from my friend so far have been maybe its the belts (namely the alternator belt/pulley) or that a cover is loose somewhere maybe. However, he had a good look all over the engine and couldnt find anything that would cause the noise, they are just ideas as to what might do it.
Anyone here have any ideas as to what might be causing it? The car is under a 6 month warranty from when i bought it (thankfully) so i hope to get it into a garage soon, but i'd kinda like a few ideas as to what it could be also.
