Its the glass breaking detector for the alarm. Sports have an alarm as standard.

but i dont have a key to turn off the alarm if there is one - or will it only go off if glass is broken?

IIRC the alarm locks when you turn the key 1/4, That button is to turn the ultrasonic off (say if you left a dog in the car) whcih is what that thing is. Is there a LED on the hazard button and a bonnet switch on the offside front turret? It will more than likely have one. Its just key operated when you put the deadlocks on.
