Good induction kit for about 150-200. Straight through exhaust system and backbox for about 100-150. Rip the back seats out, and other weighty things if u wana go this route. Get the engine remapped for a few hundred.

Topshot hit the nail on the head.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, my 1.4, with 116bhp was NOT as quick as a 106bhp 1.6 (standard)

£300 on the 1.6 engine is the best money I ever spent.

Totally wrong way about it IMO. Re-mapping is the last thing you want to do. Start by binning the standard inlet for a Mantzel or E-Bay copy. Theres a few in the classifieds at the mo. This will give a good gain. Then you can do things like exhaust etc. Then re-map it. You should see a healthy increase.

deffo as above inlet manifold. preff a mantzel or lexmaul but an ebay special will be almopst as good. then i would have a full exhaust system and performance air filter in the standard air box with a good cold air feed. i would leave my car at this untill i could afford headwork cams verniers and a remap.

but like we said why spend it on 1.4 just buy a decent 1.6 16v for £300ish which will be better than 1.4 and inlet and still have ability to tune the 1.6 later
