Is this bit that I had to remove to fit my Depos important?

Only reason I ask, is that when I revved it, it sounded a bit 'beefier' than just the 12v lump tapping away.

There is nothing inside it, so I can't see it stopping anything going into the air filter.

Thoughts opinions appreciated before I go driving off

Yeah i wouldn't worry about it. It just restricts air and shows it where to go lol. I doubt you will get much hot air through there so it will be fine. Probably help the engine breathe better too.

i would have thought it would be best to leave that where its meant to be, isnt it the cold air feed

Ahhh, so it prevents dodgy hot air from the engine going into the air filter?!

I just thought it was literally to get air into the filter, not cold air.

Anyone else?!

both ^^ are slightly correct in there own way - yes it is a cold air feed and yes it shouldnt do much damage without it there

if you put a cone filter on without a cold air feed you would get similar response only that way you are more prone to getting hot air from the engine - as the standard box is enclosed it shouldnt be too bad - i ran mine without that then put a cone with cold air feed and heat sheild on - hope that helps

Believe it or not, it did make a difference, noise wise, and only on full throttle. Decided to put it back on. Fed up of trying to make my 12v better

No idea what it'd get like when the engine is really really hot.

I'd just remove it. You wont feel the car go any better or any worse. Heat soak wont be a massive issue on a 12v. if need be block the resanator hole off (the one closest the block) and it will be sound. IMO
