...but one not really answered before (that I could find). Does changing the standard airfilter to an aftermarket panel filter have much(/any) change in performance or sound? I'm talking about WITHOUT DRILLING the airbox, and it is not for my motor but for a 1.4 I'm interested in.

Thanks

Not really, the standard air box is very restrictive, it has been designed to be as quiet as possible and this leads to restricting the engine of air a little bit. It will be slightley betther than the standard, but the main benefits are that you can keep the pannel filter for longer and does't need to be replaced at each service.
Depending on how serious you are, the best way to get a bit more power is to use an induction kit, make sure you have a metal inlet pipe, and fabricate a sealed heat shield with a cold air inlet, you should see better gains, but still not much of a gain...

no, the best way too loose power is to fit an induction kit.

guy on here did a rolling road test with 3 different types of induction
1. induction kit
2. panel filter and drilled airbox
3. viper kit

1. 114 bhp
2. 117 bhp
3 118 bhp

was around that 1.4 16v corsa with few other bits done.

cone filter sucks in hot engine bay air, essecially crap in the summer and in slow moving traffic.

The main problem with your standard induction kit is not the filter, but the amount of air "allowed" into the box. Generally the cold air feed is not very large and situated badly.

So you can remove the cold air intake and add your own.

Or you can buy an induction kit.

Any moron that says induction kits are crap needs there head examining.

If an induction kit is fitted right, and has a cold air feed by the filter itself, then the results are alot better than the standard induction.

Obviously if you fit an induction kit and dont give it cold air feed then sure its going to breathe in warm air from the engine bay and whatever cold air is allowed to vent through to the bonnet.

Spend a little cash, get your self a nice induction kit, cold air feed, and heat sheild and you will be pleasently suprised by the performance and ROAR.

Gets on my tits all these people dismissing induction kits for drilled air boxes.

The induction kit has a much bigger surface area and deresricted path into the engine.

as blundey says when done properly they are great.

Well, if you read what I posted you would see that I stated to get performance gains you would need to have the cone filter in some kind of sealed heat shield
