Its a test to see weather the car is the car you are saying it is plus weather its been repaired right.

Example
You buy Smashed Cat C Skyline, then go out a get a stolen on and weld all the ID numbers into and claim the car is the Cat C one. Got a Skyline for peanuts......
Its to stop Ringing

my dads had a few cars VIC tested when hes repaired cat c's, its basically a vehicle identity check, to make sure the car you have repaired is still the same car.
Only takes 10 to 15 minutes.

they do not check repairs or road worthynes

It is what it stands for

Vehicle Identity Check

They will check engine number, chassis number correspond with what the dvla hold on file. At the same time thay will check for signs of it being a ringer

you might also need an engineer report to confirm that the damage has been repaired for road worthiness.

BTW the VIC test costs £39 iirc
