can anyone recommend some software to do the job? 
IVe googled some software called aplus or something, but none of the links work. 
 
I also want to be able to put multiple avi's onto a single disk.

If not get it chipped and get xbmc on it.

yup if the xbox is chipped use xbmc as it will run most divx films without conversion.
