Nothing mega expensive or flash. Just needs to sound good and it would be a bonus if it was ipod compatible.
Ive got a JVC at the moment that i quite like but its died of death recently as i think the internal amp has gone home as it cuts out (cd or radio still on just no sound) all you get is the sub and amp working.

ive heard mixed veiws on apline. Some swear by it others dont think they are bad but say you can get better.

i have the kenwood 7031 and cant fault it one bit  - think they can be picked up for around £150 these days

its served me well...each set of speakers can be adjusted (front, rear, pre-outs) in terms of frequencies. was £300 when i bought mine
EDIT: Go down to halfords and have a play with one (think they still sell em but could be wrong)

iv got the sony gt200 i think its on offer in halfrauds at the moment and you can use mp3 players with it.

Im off to halfords tomoro for a look. If i find some i like i will probably find a place to order one as it is usually cheaper then them.

Got one in halfrauds in the end as it was the same price as everywhere else shockingly enough
