I posted a topic on this a while back but since then i have taken my car to a garage to get it looked at as i couldnt be bothered fucking about with it

They ran it through their computer and found no fault codes. Also after an inspection the only thing they could find was some moisture etc in the distributor.

anyway the problem is still taking place today after i got the car back today

it does the following whilst idling at junctions, lights etc randomly:

revs drop
if you try and raise it with the accelorator nothing happens
cuts out
wont restart for approx 10-15 mins (starter motor turns but nothing "bites"
will then restart and after a few revs will idle fine

ideas???

to me it sounds like fueling as it splutters and dies like it is out of fuel and if the accelorator is depressed to save it nothing happens as if there is no fuel getting there.

other then cleaning the ICV what else could i try?

first off who wants to do me a step by step guide on cleaning an ICV on a 1.2 8v as the search function brought up a load of topics but no answers.

ideas on a postcard please as i dont want to spend another week on public transport

why would this be causing it to cut out?

is the amount of fuel sent etc different depending on the speed of the car?
Was you having the same problem?

Yes and yes basically.

Dave A has taught me all this though !

ECU reads the signal from the speedo and from the signal it works out the air/fuel mixture hence the reason your car cuts out , due to wrong mixture

And also I neglected sorting my speedo throughout my whole conversion then finally changed it and cant believe how much better the car is.

Feel like a right fanny for not doing it sooner !!

i may have hit a flaw in the plan

i dont seem to have a speedo cable

i have this:

this is the only connection i can see leaving the gear box other then the reversing light switch

(plug with the blue wire)
so unless the fault is here i cant see the speedo not working been a problem. As it will only be the dial that is not working as the signal will still be getting from the gear box

would it not

Check the wires.... Your engine has an electronic speed sensor like the same ones you use for a Digi dash.

cleaned all of the connections behind the clocks and the other end that goes into the top of the gear box. Clocks seem to be working fine now.
However if you let the car warm up and then rev it sharply and quickly and then let it idle it is still rough. Also the exust fumes smell weird, kind of like drains/shoot could this indicate something else more serious like water getting into the system etc.

Anyway im off for a little drive to see how it fairs *fingures crossed*

went out for a drive and the speedo was fine and it didnt cut out. I still dont think it is 100% and I dont have much faith in it

some one at work suggested that it could be the fuel pressure regulator that gets a constant flow of fuel to the injector and returns the excess to the tank. I feel that this would make sense as when the car cuts out it is simply like it has run out of fuel.
Other then that its the ICV. but i dont know where this is all i can see is an idle control motor or is this the same thing

i am now filled with confidance

smells ok now. Might have been the mixture of injection cleaner that was going through it. Just been out and about ragging the fook out of it trying to make it cut out but to no avail. Going to use it for work tomoro so that will be judgment day

speedo hasent mis-behaved scince i cleaned all of the conections so that may have solved the problem.

right speedo is fine. Car has come close to cutting once but didnt just kind of lurched around abit under acceloration. then when i pulled over the revs stayed at 2000rpm for a bit then returned to normal.
The idle is now lower then usual as well as it sits at about 900rpm when it used to be 1000

what else could i try doing as its really fucking me off having a car thats basically undrivable one minuite and fine the next

right I ended up replacing the ignition module on my car

(the shiny bit at the end)

Seems to have solved the problem of it cutting out. However it is still running like a pig jumping around under acceleration and losing power almost completly sometimes and just spluttering

Only thing that has been suggested to be for this is the Hall sensor. What is this as i have never heard of it
