ok, this mite sound stupid but i wanna know what the little "rev"ometre thingy means. Or what ever its called. is it true that it indicated when to change gear??? pls help its driving me mad not knowing hehe

Its a rev counter, or a tachometer (same thing, just different names). It displays engine speed (rpm).

I guess you could say it tell you when to change gear, instead of using engine noise and/or speed to know when to change gear, you can change gear based on the engine rpm. Around 2.5-3K is normally 'recommended' (i changed at about 2.5K if im not in a rush), but if your going for a blast then chaning anywhere is ok as long as it doesnt go into the red area (the red line).

Yeah, most engines (and certainly the 16v MPI ones) produce peak horsepower near or at the redline, so people 'ragging it' change gear very close to the redline as this is where the car is at its fastest. Uses a load of petrol doing that though .

Going near the redline from cold and/or exessively redlining when the engine is warmed up.

It's acceptable in a 1.2 8v as it has to be done.
