I've owned and driven Rover Group cars for 25 years, I returned my last car, an MG ZS TD, to the finance company when they went bust. I've recently purchased a Mondeo ST TDCI but had it pranged.
The garage have lent me a almost new Corsa SXi 1.2l twinport. After taking a few days of getting used to it, I think it's brilliant!
It's got a dual personality, fun town runabout and a motorway screamer.
My questions:
Is this engine the best of the small engines for a high rev lifespan and how long should it last if it's used a lot at high RPM?
Why does the power pick up so much at 4,500rpm?
Are there any other weak points on the smaller engined Corsa's?
What upgrade can I make so it handles as well as it goes?

welcome to the site. For handling have a look at Eibach, koni and bilstein and also get yourself a nice wheel and tyre combo, cant really go wrong.
Ive not owned a Corsa C personally but on my sisters one the tappits went noisy and there were some issues with oil pressure around 80k miles, not sure if this is common. Problem was the throttle body all crapped up with dirt, seems alright now its clean.

the best of the smaller engined corsa's i think is the sri, its a 1.4 so its only 0.2 of a litre bigger but i have driven my mates 1.2 sxi and its nowere near the same as mine.

1.4 SRi is your best bet, maybe the 1.3 CDTi - people seem happy with them.

Why are you wanting to modify a courtesy car? or are you planning to buy one? Would have thought it'd feel slow after the mondeo

Ive always been a fan of the corsa b and owned quite a few of them, sttill got my gsi after 4 years.
recently I bought a 1.8 sri and im impressed by it, never liked the corsa c until i owned one. good solid little cars and the 1.8 engine is great. I did drive an early corsa c 1.2 sxi and I was very dissapointed the 2004> models seem to be much better built.

Of coarse I dont want to modify the courtesy car, I'm just enjoying it.
I'm trying to find out about it, bore, stroke, does it like being revved, how long will it last being revved, how does it compare to the slightly larger engines, how to make the chassis handle a little better and I thought I'd ask the experts, Corsa owners?

I guess it's like any car. Let the oil get upto temp, don't bounce off the limiter and maintain it properly and it shouldn't kick up a fuss especially as it's designed to produce more power at higher RPM's
