My car failed its MOT as the exhaust is apparently too loud. I've heard cars that are alot louder than mine on the road, but admittidly it is loud 
Is there any way of making it quieter for the MOT without getting an extra silencer put in there? or is this the only way?

you could put a reducer bung thing in the tailpipe. they do this on trackdays when the car goes over the limit.

i know obviously your a 2ltr so its prolly loud buut ive never seen them get a proper test on db level

i did think about shoving some stuff up the exhaust, wire wool or something just for the mot, but will probobly damage it.
mines pretty loud all the time, pops and bangs a bit too.

jm_16v it does it on its own dunno how you make it pop and bang if it doesn't do it by itself.

My old Focus used to do it.
Maily due to overfueling I was led to belive. I didnt change it though as it sounded a bit rally slag 
My XE doesnt do it @ the moment but I'm getting a diffrent exhaust so heres hoping

yeah i think its something to do with over fueling too. maybe my new lambda sensor will sort that.
Couldn't find anything that will make it quieter. does anyone have any info or anything?

its already got one silencer in at the moment. dont really want to be spending more money on the thing! but i think im going to have to.
i was told by someone that a car cant fail an MOT on how loud it is. Because what about these road legal drag cars, there not exactly the quietist of things.

the system is 2.25" though so a standard corsa one wont fit
might be able to fit one off another car, just got to find one with the right diameter.

Surely if you put something up the exhaust as suggested they would end up noticing it when they put the sniffer probe up there to check the emmisions. Dont quote me on this but i think the maximum limit is either 76db or 96db (a plane at takeoff is between 80-100db)
as my dad is mod plod and had a sh*t fit when i put my back box on, and he asked a traffic cop at work what the limit was on noise output
