Author probplem with my xe its reving like mad

went out this morning to start the car up an the revs were siting at 3000rpm an wudnt go down at all so took it for a frive an it was still not going any lower than 3000rpm but when i was driving if i bliped the throtle it went down any ideas
notin is blocking the cable
every thing ic conectted (electrics)
water is ok oil is ok
any ideas

Idle control valve, mine revs to 2k its self sometimes, i predict its the ICV been told it most likely is by other people too, only other thing it may be is the throttle position sensor.

any way to find out if its broke cos when out in it again an its fine now

Well mine is intermittent sometimes it works fine other times it idles crap, you can take it off and clean it thats about it.
