Whats the best kind to go for, at the most reasonable price?

I have heard Optima are good, are they not pricey though?

optima are good yes, bout 200 for a yellow top!

Just get a clacium battery for a diesel Cavalier or similar from Halfords if you don't want to spend loads, otherwise use an Optima Yellow, that will be more than enough for a moderate drain system...
