Is it legal to be towed on a motorway? I.e if you breakdown and get a mate to tow you using a van?

no dont think you can. if you breakdown youll probably get away with towing to the next junction

no towing on motorways...

you can tow on a motorway but only if a ridgid bar is used

is it true that tow ropes are now illegal?
a guy has been fined £60 here.

Rigid bars are only a couple of quid more than a tow rope and if you've ever been towed by both you'll happily pay the extra for the bar.
