Anybody know about these engines? A friend has just had the headgasket go on her Freelander 1.8 she has been told it will cost a fortune but only cost me a about £100 on my old corsasport is this right?? Ta

tiz just a headgasket job... the head itself blew on my rover 1.8 vvc

It's a frequent problem on the K-series engines - it's been on Watchdog before.

This is one of the most comprehensive tunign guides for the K-series engine. there should be something in there.

If it's a dealer that has given her a quote then get her to ring a few more gargaes as they charge a premium.
Also if it still works out expensive, you can get them ten a penny in scrap yards, from rover 200's, 400's 600's so they're easy to get hold of.

Does anyone know how much a headgasket and fitting should be because they are being quoted £800 by a few places now!!
