Right on start up...i get half a tonne of crap start up, which I dont want to! 
 
Im running windows 2000 so cant use msconfig to edit what starts and what dont....so has anyone any suggestions for me...please

icy i mean programs that physicaly start running as soon as windows turns itself on, such as msn. not just the name of programmes in the start menu!

you need to look in the registy. 
 
start > Run > Regedit 
 
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > Windows > Current Version > Run 
 
Clear some shit out of here. this is where alot of software, and viruses start from 
 
delete stuff like winzip, winamp agent and quicktime etc.. 
 
but nothing that looks important to windows

the msconfig from an XP machine will work on windows 2000 if you dont want to edit the registry

Try Windows XP, you will never turn back.  Well only if you can aford it like.  I'm not a fan of 2000, but i did really like ME
