Nice. Definately on my list of GP to visit once the (good) European ones have been exhausted.

Perez reporting degradation on the soft tyres as extreme and possible 7-10 pit stops to manage the race.

Yeah everyone is bitching about the tyres.

At Jerez they just blamed the track as it chews rubber, but at Barca they're a wee bit caught out I think.

Vettel started out on a race sim today and he pitted after 6 laps... gave up not long after that.

I'm trying really hard not to get excited about Merc this year, their pace is looking pretty nifty...

Was just reading this on the Guardian's site; hope it works out for them (if it does then Merc will be pretty special) but "too many cooks in the kitchen" springs to mine.

Wonder if Merc will keep Brawn on come 2014?

Although Tim Goss has now been made Technical Director at McLaren.

Agree with that. You've only got to look at Newey at Red Bull to see what letting one man (even if he is pretty special) just get on with his job can do.

What i do wonder though is how will this affect Mclaren this season? He's the guy who has had a major part in building this years car, a car which has under gone some quite big changes from last year. I assume no one at Mclaren will understand these changes as well as Paddy Lowe did. Will this affect them in their development through the season?

Paddy isn't going to be working with McLaren this year, but he's "not allowed" to work with Merc either. Hard to police I'm sure, but I think Merc are looking at setting up a 2014 dedicated team with it's own tech director, design team, etc.

That'll probably mean some redundancies come next year... and it's sounding like Brawn is up for the chop at that time.

final testing:

1. Mark Webber (Aus) Red Bull-Renault 1:22.693

2. Lewis Hamilton (GB) Mercedes 1:24.348

can't figure out if sand-bagging or just a lot slower.

I wouldnt worry about that time at all.

1. Its not even the fastest time from Barcelona this testing

2. The track was drying and heating up towards the end, he was on fresh Soft tyres IIRC as opposed to Hamiltons Mediums.

I only had oit on in the BG but i think Webber set his time late on in the day, after Hamilton, when the track was at its best, and on better tyres. Cant recall on what lap of their run Lewis/Webbers times were set either.

Red Bull are not nearly 2 secs faster than anyone else.

Im more happy Merc yet again did the most laps of anyone with no technical hitches. Hopefully they can bring a bit more downforce before the end of testing.

My only worry for them is whether they have improved their tyre deg issues from last season. Hard to tell in cold conditions.

Lewis has just lapped round Barca in 1:20.8 - almost a second quicker than his pole lap last season Hope this is a sign on things to come from the reformed Mercedes

seems the time was the fastest of the day/test. is it hamilton saying look brawn has done it again or others sand bagging but surely nearly a second in front some 1 would of put a low fuel time in on softs

Still means no a lot right now. A fast car over one lap is one thing, but getting a car thats fast consistantly in a race is quite another.

Encouraging though, yet again did most laps today.

Lewis has changed his tone in the press too. He now thinks the car will be capable of a win now which is not what he was saying after Jerez. Roll on Oz! I need to get a sky go subscription
