Steve, we have the PS3 devkit AND 360 devkits at uni, and I agree, the M$ offering is far easier to code with and take advantage of various features compared to the PS3 one...

The black xbox will be in limited numbers, so for the people that can't get one (or don't want to fork out for a new console) does that mean there going to be screwed for HDMI connectivity? Because microsoft has certainly failed to produce a cable during the peak time of people buying this new technology, so it certainly isn't anything to do with demand, as there IS demand for it right now, and it not as if they haven't had enough time 
And true, the xbox is a console and so is the PS3, but both companies want a slice of that "ultimate media centre" vision hence them both having a drive capable of using the new film formats. Only difference is i can buy a PS3 and watch a film in 1080p using my HDMI capable telly, something you can't do with a 360 - unless you fancy forking out for a new console, thats IF you can get hold of one, or fancy playing the waiting game for this "invisible" cable!
Sounds like sony got something right

im guessing the launch of HDMI and bigger hard drive will be after the limited console.
How is demand at its greatest if there are hardly any HD DVD players in stock?
over this year will see demand increase massively and by autumn i can see the cable being released when the HD DVD players are back in stock.
PS3 doesnt come with the HDMI cable

i dont need one, but not many people who own a 360 got a HD player, very few in fact it will have one. This summer we shall see.
